Did you think to pray?

 As a missionary you literally pray before everything. When in doubt.. pray your heart out.

Yesterday before we left our home to get to business everything kept going wrong we were forgetting things losing things and leaving things... But we finally got out. As we were leaving our apartment complex we stopped and said a prayer that we could travel in safety that we could be alert and cars around us would also be alert and aware of the bad conditions that were beginning. once we finished this prayer we were off. The snow was falling lightly and the roads were barely covered. The winter wonderland was just getting warmed up.. or cooled down I guess would be more appropriate ;}

okay anyway.

I am currently serving in Rochester, in the area I serve there is this CRAZY intersection that is on this insane steep hill and it has this really awkward turn at the top... I hate it in good weather. In case you have never been in New York for the winter... THE ROADS ARE TERRIBLE. It's freezing and the snow is SLIPPERY.. More slippery than what I have grown up with. I am a Utah girl, the state known for it's snow. My dad taught me at a young age how to ride a four wheeler in the snow like James Bond drives a sports car. We grew up doing donuts in parking lots. My older brother and I used to rally his Mazda protege in snow filled parking lots while jamming to Beethoven.. (sorry mom and dad) And these roads had become a little bit of a challenge to over come.

Alright.. This is where the story gets good. So we are driving to an appointment last night and the weather wasn't particularly terrible.. however it wasn't great, before we know it there are snow flakes bigger than my face falling from the sky.. the roads are now soggy frozen and snowed over. We got to our destination with out any trouble minor slips here and there. It was until the ride home when things got exciting.

At our first appointment our phone decided it wanted to play in the snow with out telling us, and before we realized it was missing we were off to our next stop... Then the time came that we had a meeting to get to at our church as we are driving there sister Dimick then notices our phone is missing. So we pray. We pray and drive back to Hazlewood and retrace our steps and there we find our beautiful phone hiding. and safe. That there was prayer number one answered! Once again, we were off to our next destination.

Here we are at the intersection again and it is my turn to go left, this intersection is almost always full of cars in every direction keep in mind. Here i go... turning a very slow left driving more cautiously than ever not wanting to crash and lose my driving privileges before i know it our car is sliding completely sideways down this hill and toward a curb so i steer to correct us and just as we are straightening out we are spinning in a circle in SLOW MOTION and end up in the opposite direction in the correct lane... in this moment the hill was free of cars, there was no sign of danger for miles. THIS NEVER HAPPENS. I was able to keep calm and literally laugh hysterically while it was happening, once the car was straightened out i looked at sister dimick and was so relived that nothing terrible had happened. in that moment heavenly father was aware of us, where we would be and traffic was still for that moment, once the car was corrected there were cars all around us again.

We all have our obstacles, however Heavenly father has created a life line for us. He is only a prayer away. No matter the trouble, something so simple as clearing my mind in this moment that i would be able to correct our car and get us headed back in the right course, it was a different direction than what we planned but it later provided greater opportunities for us to give of our service. The Lord can clear the way for you.

Prayer is something the Lord expects us to do daily. He wants to hear from you. Not only in moments of despair when your life is spinning out of control, but when you are happy and grateful. There is no sweeter spirit than that which comes from giving a prayer of gratitude, the more you pray with gratitude you realize how much you truly have to be thankful for.

"Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever.

 Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day."

These habits i have formed with my patterns of prayer are habits i wish to take with me to life after my mission. To rely on the Lord for all of my support, in everything i do.

There is power in prayer, there is a God who hears and answers each prayer, he loves us and he wants what is best for us.
